Important Configuration Information
Verify the original roller-clutch design before ordering. Earlier 4L80E assemblies use a different roller-clutch configuration, so vehicle year alone is not sufficient to confirm compatibility. Match the transmission model, original drum, roller-clutch style, and roller outside diameter.

Part Function
The overrun clutch drum includes the sun gear and provides the inner race surface for the 4L80E overdrive roller clutch. In normal operation, the overdrive roller clutch transfers load through the overdrive planetary system in the lower forward gears. The overrun clutch drum is also applied in manual ranges to provide engine braking and support the roller-clutch assembly.

When To Inspect Or Replace
Replace this drum when teardown identifies scoring, race-surface damage, heat damage, roller-clutch failure debris, or other wear affecting the overrun clutch drum assembly. A failed overdrive roller clutch can also damage the overdrive planetary, related bearings, and forward-drum/ring-gear components, so inspect all mating parts before reassembly.
