What This Band Does:

The 2-4 intermediate band is one of the most critical holding components in the Th700-R4 and 4L60E transmission. It applies pressure against the reverse input drum to hold 2nd and 4th (overdrive) gear. When this band wears or burns, the result is typically a complete loss of 2nd gear, loss of 4th gear, rpm flare on the 1-2 shift, or the transmission skipping from 1st directly into 3rd — all signs pointing to a failed or slipping 2-4 band.
