What This Part Does

The valve body spacer plate sits between the valve body and transmission case. It routes hydraulic fluid through calibrated passages and keeps separate hydraulic circuits sealed from one another. The bonded gaskets are installed on both sides of the plate, eliminating the need to source separate upper and lower spacer plate gaskets.

Common Service Findings

Replace the plate when inspection shows worn checkball areas, grooves, warped steel, damaged bonded gasket material, or sealing-surface distortion. A damaged plate may contribute to internal cross-leaks, delayed engagement, inconsistent 1-2 shifts, 2-3 or 3-4 flare, low or unstable line pressure, reverse slipping, or other shift-quality concerns.

Transmission symptoms can have more than one cause. Inspect the valve body, checkball seats, screens, solenoids, and related components before determining that the separator plate is the sole repair needed.
